In recognition of the growing importance of responsible and sustainable tourism, Misibis Bay Resort, headed by Chairman of the Board Mr. Elizaldy S. Co, has committed to uphold the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism by the United Nations World Tourism Organization. UN World Tourism Organization Secretary-General, Dr. Taleb Rifai and DOT Secretary Ramon Jimenez witnessed the signing ceremony, held in May 2014 in Legazpi City. By signing the agreement, Misibis Bay pledges to observe the principles of the Code i.e. protect the environment, preserve the nation’s cultural heritage, respect human rights, and work toward social inclusion, gender equality and accessibility.

Since 2009, Misibis Bay has been dedicated to protecting the environment and to improving the livelihood of the local community through the Misibis Bay Coastal Care Foundation (MCCF). MCCF is a non-profit organization that aims to implement various conservation projects, such as coastal and underwater clean-ups, giant clam planting to promote coral reef growth, installation of solar-powered streetlights, solid waste management, and monitoring and prevention of illegal fishing. The foundation also provides educational scholarships and skills training by increasing the local workforce’s competency. To minimize the resort’s carbon footprint, it has also collaborated with the local academe to develop a high-value and high-income vegetable production program by reducing food miles on the procurement of supplies and developing sustainable food menus for its guests.
